To analyse the impact of agrochemicals on non-target organisms in the field and under semi-field and laboratory conditions we use organisms that have been reared under standard conditions.

BTL has supplied pests and non-target organisms for testing pesticides for the purpose of registration to companies in Germany and other countries in the EEC.

Future Activities
BTL is expanding its services by:

1. Developing an economical procedure for the mass production and inoculation of important crops with pests, especially aphids, so that field trials can be carried out independently of the natural fluctuations in abundance (occurrence) of the pests.

2. Developing an economical procedure for the mass production of dung-colonising arthropods (dung beetles, dung flies) for studying the impact of veterinary pharmaceutical products and transgenic plants on wildlife, in particular insects.
